COSPLAYING

Andrea Alsager participates in a unique activity

While many students are participating in sports and clubs Andrea Alsager does not only partake in such things but she also cosplays.

Cosplay is the practice of dressing up as a character from a movie, book, or video game especially those from the japanese genres of both manga and anime.

Alsager also enjoys going to anime conventions in different states while dressed up in a cosplay outfit. An anime convention is an event or gathering with a primary focus on both anime, manga and the Japanese culture. Commonly, anime conventions are multi-day events hosted at convention centers, hotels or college campuses. At conventions you can meet other people who have the same interests as you, eat unique food, meet voice actors of movie series, have rave parties, and of course, play video games.

Alsager has been to a total of five conventions so far and has been cosplaying for a total of six years.

Some other things Alsager enjoys doing while dressed up are ; have a photoshoot, pose in dramatic positions, and go out sometimes with friends Cosplaying in public for fun.

“I have over 26 coloured wigs- my favorite is a short black one,” Alsager said.

Alsager has gotten a few friends to join her in participating in cosplaying. She has her own youtube channel where she posts videos of her and her friends doing skits.

“My sister and I were streaming youtube watching funny videos, when we clicked on a cool looking cartoonish video. We found out that the cartoon was actually called Anime, and from there on out we researched everything about it, which lead to cosplaying,” Alsager said.

Alsager plans on continuing cosplaying and her and her sister hope to travel to farther away states so that they can meet more famous actors.

“My sister has even been featured in a cosplaying magazine,” Alsager said.
