Sandpoint High School is home to plenty of musical talent, but few students are involved inmusic as much as senior Ben Waggoner.

Perhaps most recognizable as the bass player behind “Hey Baby” in the pep band, Waggoner is involved in many musical groups at Sandpoint High.

“I’m in Jazz I, Symphonic Band, Steel PanBand, [and] I play in the rhythm section for four choirs,” Waggoner said.

He is also a member of Broken Time, a jazz combo that played during a finals week assembly.

While Waggoner’s main instrument is the bass, he also plays the guitar, ukulele, piano, drums, steel pans, and tenor saxophone. He credits his mom for first encouraging him to take guitar lessons as a kid, but said “the rest I’ve kinda picked up on my own.”

After graduating, Waggoner plans to study music at the University of Idaho.

“Right now, I plan on majoring in composing music and writing music for movies,” he said. “You look at Star Wars or Harry Potter, what would those movies be without their music?”
