CP REVIEW: ROGUE ONE

Bi-Weekly Reviews by the Cedar Post Staff

For Star Wars fans and action flick lovers, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story is a must see. It follows the journey of Jyn Erso (Felicity Jones), daughter of an Imperial scientist, on her path to steal the schematics for the Death Star and fight Imperial rule.

The movie begins with a flashback to Jyn’s childhood, where Imperial weapons developer Orson Krennick abducts her father Galen Erson so that he can be forced to complete the plans for the Death Star, a weapon capable of destroying entire planets. Jyn is able to escape with help from a Rebel extremist and goes into hiding. Nearly 15 years later, a defecting Imperial cargo pilot smuggles a hologram from Galen Erso to the Rebel Alliance. Learning of the near completion of the Death Star, Rebel forces join with Jyn Erso to steal the Death Star schematics. Things do not go as planned however, and Jyn must sacrifice herself in order to transmit the schematics. The movie ends as a rebel ship escapes into hyperspace, containing the Death Star schematics and Princess Leia.

Despite it’s darker nature in comparison to many other Star Wars films, Rogue One succeeds in entertaining a universal audience. For those looking for a more exciting version, Bonner Mall Cinemas offers a limited 3D showing through the end of January.
