Senior Madalyn Matilla has more than 52,000 followers on the social media app TikTok. “I don’t have a specific brand,” Matilla said. “I just make whatever I’m feeling or whatever trend I like at the moment.”

Senior Madalyn Mattila uses her comical personality to express herself on the well-known social media video app, TikTok.

Mattila has been using the app since November of 2018 and has gained over 52,000 followers. You can find Mattila at ‘maddie.km’ on TikTok. Her first viral video got 45,000 likes and her most liked video has 175,000 likes.

“I started it as a joke,” Mattila said. “I, then, started making funny videos and all of the sudden one went viral and I realized I can make videos that people like.”

She adds that she loves to make videos that she and her followers can enjoy. Mattila’s platform consists of people of all ages.

“My followers just depend on the type of video I post,” she said. “I don’t have a specific brand. I just make whatever I’m feeling or whatever trend I like at the moment.”

She thinks the attention of her fans is nerve-wracking and doesn’t understand why they think she’s such a big deal. TikTok, in Mattila’s eyes, gives her a new perspective to the idea that if she truly tries at something then she can accomplish it.

Of course, there are some negative points about the app.

“Dealing with hate is an inconvenience, but it doesn’t affect me,” Mattila said. “I usually just reply with something sarcastic.”

Although Mattila makes her videos, not for popularity but to make her and her followers laugh, she has noticed that TikTok is very trend-orientated.

“It’s rewarding when you make a video that people like, but it’s very hard to get your video noticed … I don’t like any of the trends right now so I make them my way and they don’t get much notice.”

Mattila wants to continue making videos for as long as she can and to keep her fans satisfied with her content.
