FIVE STARS: FARMHOUSE KITCHEN

Walking into Farmhouse Kitchen I felt like I’d stepped into a welcoming log cabin. I was almost automatically shown to a table and given the brunch lunch menu by very friendly staff. On one side it had a list of drinks like a coffee shop and on the other side there was a variety of brunch style food choices. I ordered a chai tea, banana bread with almond butter, and a classic waffle with whip cream and some syrup. The chai was a little bland in flavor for my taste as I like a lot of flavor  but was the perfect warmth for a winter day. The almond butter with the banana bread came out second. I lathered on the almond butter and the mix of the two flavors was so delicious I almost ordered more. The waffles came out half way through eating the banana bread and I was given butter and syrup to add to the waffle. The waffles were warm and just as delicious the bread. By the end of the meal I was extremely full and wished I could eat more. This is a place that I would definitely recommend and that I will be going back to. This location is good for being with the family, meeting up with a friend or even going out on a date.

FIVE STARS: BEET AND BASIL

WARNING: NOT FOR PICKY EATERS!!!

Beet and Basil has a fantastic menu that is extremely unique and foreign. All of the staff is very friendly and welcoming, even those who work in the kitchen are coming in and out so it’s fun to see who’s preparing your meals. The menu has items from all over Asia and some from Africa, which is not something that many people are subject to. Although there are Chinese restaurants everywhere, Beet and Basil’s Asian meals are things I’ve never heard of before. That also makes the menu confusing and hard to know what I’ll like, which is exactly why picky eaters might have a very hard time here. There are close to no “American” or classic meals- most of the names were new to me. Every time I’ve eaten there, I’ve chosen menu items that I didn’t know or recognize and it’s always very yummy. The ingredients are mostly organic or sourced locally, which is also something I appreciate! I would definitely recommend Beet and Basil to anyone looking to expand their horizons past hamburgers and french fries.

FOUR STARS: CITY BEACH ORGANICS

City Beach Organics is conveniently located on First Street in downtown Sandpoint, which makes it more attractive to go to, especially during the summer. The inside has a very comfortable and homey feel to it, which is only enhanced by the friendly staff. My favorite spots to sit are either the comfy couch on the far side of the restaurant or a window seat where I can people watch on one of the most popular streets in town. The food always tastes great and has alternatives for vegans, vegetarians or those just looking for a healthier option. They make all the food in house and use all organic ingredients which is an attractive attribute for me because I don’t have to worry about unnecessary chemicals or GMO’s. They also have a varying list of smoothies and juices packed with tons of yummy and healthy ingredients. I gave them 4 stars because their food menu is slightly restrictive considering they only have wraps, melts, salads, and a couple desserts. Overall, I’d definitely recommend City Beach Organics to all kinds of people- not just healthy hippie vegans.
