SLIGHTLY OVERRATED

Some things are not as cool as they seem

SLIGHTLY+OVERRATED

Many things pass as cool, but in reality are overrated. The Cedar Post staff lets you know some of these things — you want to be cool, right? —  in the Slightly Overrated list.

Birkenstocks

Birkenstocks are a shoe trend that has been sweeping the nation, resulting in every girl having at least one pair in their closet. But are these overpriced shoes really worth buying? These sandals are too overpriced to look like hobo.

— Sarah Brown

Hydro Flask

If you aren’t walking into school with your Hydro Flask and keys in one hand, and phone in the other, do you really go to Sandpoint High School?

Hydro Flasks are considered to be an essential for everyday high school life and if you don’t have one, you may feel the need to run over to Finan McDonald and buy the most expensive one, just to one up your best friend’s Hydro Flask.

But on the other hand, who needs a $40 water bottle that keeps your beverages hot or cold when you could buy a cheap knockoff at TJ Maxx … Maxxinista for life over here.

— Claire Keener

Cold water is great and all, but is it truly worthy of $33 and ice hitting your teeth every time you want a sip of water. High quality insulation isn’t worth the over-priced, easily dented bottle. Why risk breaking your bottle and denting your savings?

— Addi House

Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is talented, and that goes without saying, but her new songs are utter garbage. The lovable ex-country star takes on the persona of a ‘bad girl’ and tries to act as though we are all taking it seriously. The chorus of “Look What You Made Me Do” isn’t even her singing, but her attempting to whisper seductively into the microphone.

Taylor, pick the guitar back up. Let Beyonce and Rihanna run pop music again.

— Sam Diercks

iPhones

Sure, iPhones look good and are somewhat well made, but they definitely don’t live up to their price tag. iPhones don’t have anything that sets them apart. Other than their prices, of course.

— Aaron Cole

Hard candy

Not only are they a choking hazard, but hard candies will never compare to their soft chocolate alternatives because of the lack of tasty flavor options and overall disappointing experience. In short, hard candies suck.

— Shelby Dorman

Pumpkin Spice Lattes

Pumpkin spice lattes seem to be the drink of the season and its content reeks of overly sweetened coffee with an extra dash of nutmeg. Is there even pumpkin in a PSL?

— Chloe Edwards

Lil pump

Lil pump uses loud catchy beats, controversial lyrics highlighting a wealthy lifestyle, and a young money attitude to draw lots of attention and fans. Lil pump is rich trash.

— Josh Wells

Slime

Slime seems like a squishy, fun, easy thing to create with household ingredients, but it is really just an overrated preschool project. Craft time is over.

— Grace Hicks

Vans

While vans are trending, these cheaply made shoes have no support and wear out quickly. Why do teenagers insist on wearing poorly made shoes just because they can? Invest in some practical, long-lasting shoes.

— Lily Waldrup

Patagonia

I know Patagonia is a brand with high quality items but to pay so much money for something partly just for the name of the brand doesn’t make sense. Buy something similar that is still good quality for about  half the price. Why not expand to different brands?

— Ciena Christensen

Valentine’s Day

I like binge watching Ryan Gosling movies and eating chocolate as much as the next person, but the ugly truth is that Valentine’s Day is nothing more than a commercial holiday created by Hallmark. Valentine’s Day sucks.

— Corrine Capodagli

Cacti

It’s easy to appreciate some nice greenery that stays alive easily indoors, but something that pokes me each time I water it is not worth the pain. Really, cacti are just angry, lump-looking plants.

— Emerson Kanning
