  1. Gold Hill

The Gold Hill trailhead is located just off of Bottle Bay Road. The 3.7 mile hike brings you to an amazing view point with benches to relax along the way. It has a great view of the city of Sandpoint and the Pend Oreille river. This is a great place for family picnics or a rewarding hike on a lazy afternoon.

  1. Mickinnick Trail

The Mickinnick trailhead is located just off Schweitzer Mountain Cutoff road. This 3.5 mile hike is a bit steeper but it is well worth it. Once you reach the summit, there is a great view of Lake Pend Oreille and the Cabinet Mountains.

  1. Round Lake

Located off Dufort Road in the Round Lake State Park, this easy 2 mile loop is a great place to spot wildlife and get close to nature. Be warned there is a $5 entry fee into the park and it can get quite busy during the summer months.

  1. Schweitzer Mountain Trails

When snow is not covering the slopes, Schweitzer supports a plethora of different difficulties of hiking and biking trails. Great views of Lake Pend Oreille abound and, if they are in season, tons of huckleberries to pick along the way.

  1. Maiden Rock

This 2 mile hike takes you to a private, rocky beach on Lake Pend Oreille. There is a giant granite formation and great view of the Monarchs.  Be warned though, the hike is all downhill on the way in and, more importantly, entirely uphill on the way back. To get there, drive to Lake Cocolalla, follow Butler Road for 5 miles until you reach the trailhead.
