The Shallows is an action thriller starring Blake Lively as the character Nancy. The movies follows Nancy as she fights for her life, stranded off the coast of a barren beach in Mexico.

The plot explains her visiting a beach once loved by her mother, who had passed away. While there she spends the day surfing with two men she had just met, but once they leave everything goes downhill. Lively is suddenly attacked by a great white shark and has to find a way to survive in the ocean, as she can not reach the shore.

The plot does develop much after the first half hour. The beginning is filled with action and suspense, but this comes to a halt early in the movie. Despite the small cast, short plot, and single location, this movie stays suspenseful throughout.

The Shallows is one of the better shark movies out there, as the special effects and acting was done well. Although there are some lacking parts to the movie, It is still worth watching.
