Senior Tyler Presser claimed his first 4A state wrestling title after coming close last year.

Sixteen wrestlers from Sandpoint High School embarked on a campaign to win the state title in their weight division at the 4A state championship, but only two were victorious at the end.

Senior Tyler Presser won the 160 pound division and junior Casey Randles won the 182 pound division.

After breaking his collarbone in the state final last year, Presser said he approached this match with a greater sense of confidence.

The match went to the third round wherePresser switched to a more defensive approach to ensure the win.

“I kept on repeating to myself over and over again that I was going to win it,” Presser said.

He stayed strong and won the match by one point.

“It paid off,” Presser said.

Junior Casey Randles claimed his second straight 4A state wrestling title in Pocatello.

This is the second state title for Randles, who won last year as well. Randles plans on putting a lot of work in over the summer to hopefully win state for a third time next year.

“Last year I think I was a little more of an underdog coming in as a sophomore […] this year everyone knew who I was,” Randles said.

Randles started the match with high intensity that left him winded early in. He was able to catch a break when officials stepped in to clean the blood of his opponent off the mat. Randles continued to dominate the rest of the match, pinning his opponent in the second period.

“I was actually a little frustrated I hadn’t pinned him earlier,” Randles said.
