PROCRASTINATION PROBLEMS

Poor time management inhibits full potential

Procrastination is an established feature of the high school experience. Students stay up late when they cannot finish their homework, yet if students learned to cope with the constant parasitic procrastination, then they would be more likely to be able to handle schoolwork.

Studying for tests can be difficult when there’s social events, family activities, and other fun ways to spend time. There are endless tempting distractions, and it can be difficult to focus on the things that need to be done.

Procrastination is a universal struggle. Everybody must deal with it, despite age or where they come from. Many scientists and sociologists have agreed that people use procrastination as a way of avoiding failure. It’s a subconscious mindset of: “How can I ever fail the task or goal, if I never take the first steps towards accomplishing it?” Oftentimes, even something that someone is passionate about will be left on the back burner for later.

It’s easy to look at a task and tell ourselves that it can wait. Some have even accepted the fact that they procrastinate on a regular basis, telling themselves that they work the best under pressure.

Yes, it may be true that many people’s minds may be more likely to come up with ideas when a deadline is looming, but it is often the quality of these ideas that lacks.

Most of us can tell when a company spends little time on their concept: it’s easy to tell a trashy logo apart from one that took a long time, it’s easy to spot the cheap food next to food that took longer to make, and it’s easy to tell the difference between a rushed illustration and one that was mulled over. One of the most famous artists, Georges Seurat, took more than two years to complete his famous pointillism piece: A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte. Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 took him two years to complete as well.

If society understands that some of the world’s most universally known creators took their time, then individuals should not be struggling to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Time is valuable, and it’s crucial that people know how to utilize it in a way that is effective. It’s quite common to hear others talk about how they don’t have time, but the reality is that they simply need to learn how to prioritize their responsibilities.

The key idea here is that when we procrastinate, others may not notice, but if we choose to be productive and fully grow our ideas, then it is almost guaranteed that this work will be noticed in a positive way.
