TOP TEN ADVENTURES TO HAVE THIS WINTER
A list of ways you can get outside and enjoy all Sandpoint has to offer!
Ice Skating
Located ½ mile down Pine Street under the train bridge, the Chuck Slough is more commonly known for its ice skating amenities. Grab a pair of ice skates and head over to this icy pond for a day of skating!
Schweitzer
Get together a group of friends, gather your skis and snowboards and head up to Schweitzer for a day on the mountain! Hit the slopes, then explore the new lodge at the top of the Great Escape. Schweitzer also offers tubing located at Hermit’s Hollow and is great for an outing with younger siblings who aren’t ready for the dangers of the mountain.
Snowshoeing
Snowshoeing is one activity that is often overlooked. If you aren’t into any extreme winter action sports, consider giving snowshoeing a chance. A great escape as well as an opportunity to get outdoors to experience this winter wonderland. Snowshoeing also makes for a great workout so be prepared to break a sweat.
Sledding
And you’re off! Buzz down a hill in that old sled you have sitting in your garage! Not only is it a great fix to make the time go by, it also provides you with some form of amusement. Who knows what happens with steep hills and reckless children.
Cross Country Skiing
This activity is offered on the “Quiet Side” of Schwietzer. On this desolate side where there isn’t a need for steep slopes and a surplus of powder, one can enjoy a calm and easy going environment as well as putting in your work out fix.
Snowbiking
This activity may seem a little unusual but it makes for a great day out in the snow! Schweitzer also offer snowbiking for those who want to try a new activity. One snowbike rental is $15 for one hour.
Hike
Get out and explore some of your favorite trails in the winter. Although it’s a little bit chillier, the views are still amazing and getting to the top of the trail always is an accomplishment.
Hot Springs
If you’re not a fan of the cold weather, take a trip to one of the many natural hot springs we have here in the PNW. One of the most popular locations is Quinn’s Hot Springs, located in Paradise, Montana is just about two hours away.
Bonfire
Grab a jacket, your s’more kit, and people to cozy up by a nice winter fire. Pass around the hot cocoa and enjoy some good company as you warm up on these chilly winter days.
Build A Snowman
Although this seems a little childish, it makes up for it in your former childhood spirit! Get creative with it! Make some oddball snowman with characteristics that make it unique. Whether you’re with your family or your friends, it’ll make memories that last a lifetime.
