Jacob Williams has been involved with rodeo almost his whole life, breaking horses since a young age. Hearing stories from his mom, who used to ride bulls, sparked his interest in rodeo.

Williams competes in three different rodeo events: bull riding, bareback, and saddle bronc. He competes in a Washington league to avoid further traveling distances to southern Idaho.

This summer Williams plans to compete in rodeos in Idaho, Montana, Washington, Oregon, Texas, and hopefully Gillette, Wyoming, which is where Nationals take place.

Williams is currently working on recovering from a shoulder injury that left him unable to finish the wrestling season. He is now focusing all his efforts toward rodeo.

Scores in bull riding, bareback, and saddle bronc are based half on the animals and half on the riders. Animals are scored on buck, spin, and aggressiveness, while riders are scored on balance, form, and staying on.

“I get in the zone when I’m in the chute. It’s really cool that it’s you versus the animal, but then again you’re working together to get a good score,” Williams said.

Williams plans to continue doing rodeo in college and hopes to join a team.
