It was a historic night for junior Madi Schoening on Tuesday, Feb. 3.

Schoening single-handedly outscored Inland Empire League-rival Lakeland with 49 points, including 7-8 from three-point range, to lead the Bulldogs to 65-46 victory over the Hawks. The rest of the team contributed 16 points.

Not only did Schoening break her career high, but she shattered the SHS all-time record of 40 set by Alli Nieman in the mid 1990s.

“It’s been a goal of mine since freshman year to break the scoring record,” Schoening said. “It is such an exhilarating feeling, and such an honor to be even in the same conversation as Alli Nieman.”

The Lady Bulldogs swept district play with a 4-0 record, thus clinching the first seed in the district tournament.

Schoening and the Lady Bulldogs will play the winner of Lakeland/Moscow on Wednesday, Feb. 11, at 8 p.m. at North Idaho College for the district championship. The winner receives an automatic bid to the 4A state tournament.
