ALBUM OF THE MONTH REVIEW: THE SAGA CONTINUES

Old-School Streamlined

The Saga Continues is the seventh album by the Wu-Tang Clan, one of the most successful hip-hop groups of all time. Similar to previous albums, The Saga Continues contains dark, dirty beats mixed with brief moments of keyboard, soul, and even some vintage Kung Fu movie sounds.

Most of the songs maintain a slow, mellow beat with a few moments of variation or Kung-Fu sounds. This is great background music but not necessarily quality listening compared to some of Wu-Tang’s previous works.

Wu-Tang fans are probably a bit disappointed because instead of honing their musical ability, Wu-Tang has streamlined their music and produced a mash-up of their previous songs. Despite the unoriginal nature of this album, it is quality, old school rap that serves as some new background noise for a weekend get-together or maybe an angry weekend workout.

This album was released under slightly different circumstances as other albums because one of the original founders of Wu-Tang Clan, U-God, did not participate. Allegedly, this is due to legal issues U-God is having with the group over royalties and so he did not participate in the album.

The group recognized this split by removing ‘Clan’ from the title, acknowledging U-God’s absence.
