GEARED UP: Tom is looking forward to an exciting productive year at the high school.

With the launch of the 2014-15 school year, multiple new faces can be recognized with a simple stroll down the hallways.

Among those faces, Tom Albertson, the new principal of Sandpoint High School is beginning his 28th year as a member of the LPOSD school district staff. “I look forward to working with great staff members, awesome students, and dedicated community members in continuing to make SHS one of the best high schools in Idaho.” Albertson said in an email interview. “One of my goals is to learn something new every day.”

Albertson worked his way up to where he stands now, with twenty-two years as a math teacher and six in administrative roles. With nearly 30 years of experience under his belt, Albertson was the perfect man for the job after Dr. Becky Meyer was promoted to Assistant Superintendent for Teaching and Learning after eight years of being the SHS principal.

HARD WORK: Albertson is hard at work with the beginning of the school year, keeping up on the constant bustle of the hallways.

One of the major changes in the school this year includes more limitations to tardies, and absences in general. Albertson is focusing on creating a learning environment at the high school that is inviting and draws students into the school as a part of his “Increased student attendance” plan.

Albertson wants to learn from and practice one of Steven Covey’s principles “Seek to understand before being understood” by listening to the students and staff that he surrounds himself with.

Albertson calls himself the lead learner at the highschool because he wants to learn something new every day and collaboratively learn with students and staff.

“Learning today, lead tomorrow— the Bulldog way” (coined by Albertson) can be heard in the morning announcements, and sends a message to fellow students that hits home. The motto is aimed at showing students what their education means in the long run.

In his spare time, Albertson operates the Albertson family ranch that he lives on and devotes his time to the high school and all of the LPOSD staff.

His long standing roots and devotion in the school district, as well as the community prove that Tom Albertson is the best match for the long standing tradition of SHS excellence.
