CHEER AND DANCE GO TO STATE
Cheer and dance end their competition seasons on a positive note
The cheerleading and dance teams competition season came to an end this past weekend. Both the cheer and dance teams have recently gone to state.
The dance team had previously won grand champions at both their first competition held at Post Falls and at Districts. While at Post Falls, the girls placed first in two of their dances and second in one dance. This success lead to them participating in the state competition this year.
Although the dance team has placed first many times throughout the season, they ended up placing third overall in the 4A division.
For members such as Sara Savage it is not all about the competition. Savage enjoys the fact that the girls are able to cooperate and work together. This trust and cooperation leads them to being able to achieve goals and enjoy the results together.
“It really wasn’t that disappointing. We knew the competition when we went to state and what we were up against,” Savage said.
The cheer team did not place at state this year. They dropped a few stunts due to forgetting last minute changes to their routine. They also had a team member step off the mat which caused a point deduction.
For cheerleaders like Rebecca Coop, going to state is not necessarily about winning or losing, it is more about the experience of being together.
“A lot of tears are always shed because it’s the last time we get to perform with the seniors and the moments of carefree emotions are the moments I do cheer for. My teammates are some of the best friend I will ever have and state is just a chance for us to all bond and experience new things,” Coop said.
Most sports mostly care more about placing at state, both the dance and cheer teams are always looking forward to the experiences they share together more often than anything else.
