THE BARE MINIMUM
What truly counts as the bare minimum?
When it comes to credits we need to have to graduate many students get confused as to what they actually are. For those that do not know, the minimum for math it is a total six and for english it is eight credits. That differentiation leads to some confusion in some ways, why should it be less for math and more for english why are they not the same?
When it comes to the different credit requirements it is not Sandpoint High School who decides it is the state decides for all of the schools.
“Many students don’t know but it is a requirement that you have two credits -a full year- of a math class in your senior year, so if it one wishes to have a year off it has to be within your Junior year,” Nusbaum said.
Although those are the requirements many students who are college bound end up doing four years of math and may even double up in their sophomore year with geometry and Algebra II at the same time.
Katherine Kaul (11) is currently in both AP Stats and AP Calculus. Kaul took Geometry in eighth grade which opened up more advanced math classes as a Freshman.
“I not only really like math but it will also help me with my future career choice- which is medical research,” Kaul said.
Kateryna Golonsa (11) is not taking a math class this year, the stresses are simply too much.
“It honestly will do nothing to help me benefit in my future career which is being a counselor and or therapist, also math just stresses me out way too much and makes it to where I can not focus on other classes,” Golosina said.
So if there is an individual who is wondering whether or not to do a math class junior year your career choice should be a major factor in the decision making process.
