SADDLING UP FOR BATTLE FOR THE PADDLE

Battle for the Paddle is new this year, so here are things to know about the ruthless upcoming event

With Battle for the Paddle coming just around the corner, many students are still confused on what it will be and how it will differ from our traditional rivalry against Bonners Ferry High School in Moose Madness. Although opinions and questions vary, we can be certain of a few things gearing up for the event.

Leading up to the event on January 20 students will be given many opportunities to dress up in an entire spirit week before the games start. While there is no specific theme and it is not yet confirmed on what the dress up days will be, we do know that Friday on the day of the game students will be given the chance to dress up in their classic red and white to support their Bulldogs.

As for the schedule and activities during the game, the day will feature a girls basketball game starting 4:00pm, followed by a new feature of a wrestling match in the middle, and finishing with a boys basketball game. All of the games will be against Lakeland High School, as Bonners Ferry High School declined continuing Moose Madness since they felt they weren’t fairly matched against Sandpoint High School.

Even though students think Battle for the Paddle will be a new and interesting event, most still have opinions that oppose each other. As for student council, members like Laney Search are taking opinions into account and figuring out how to organize the exciting event.

“I’ve heard from a lot of people that playing Lakeland will be good because it prepares us for league games and provides a bigger turnout.” said Senior Vice-President Laney Search.
Battle for the Paddle starts on January 20 at 4:00pm in the Lakeland High School gym, and the winner of this event will not only get the paddle to display for the whole year, but will also get the bragging rights of winning one of the biggest high school spirit events of the year.
