As Republicans made big gains this week on the national level, local Republican nominees also found success in their races.

In the closest race of the week, Heather Scott maintained her position as a House A District 1 Representative, earning 59.6% of the popular vote and beating Democratic nominee Kate Mcalister.

Republican Sage Dixon also retained his House B Rep. seat with a large portion of the popular vote.  His Democratic opponent Steven Howlett garnered only 5,735 votes, giving Dixon the win with nearly 11,724 votes.

Longstanding Dist. 1 Senator Shawn Keough secured 13,391 votes, giving her the win over Steve Tanner with nearly 75% of the popular vote. Though Tanner ran as the Democratic nominee, he is a self-declared Republican. Tanner was able to obtain the Democratic nomination after losing in the GOP nomination to Keough previously in the race.

Despite efforts made by write-in candidate Terry Ford, incumbent Daryl Wheeler once again retained his position as Bonner County Sheriff. Wheeler amassed a total of 13,533 votes, nearly 76% of the general vote.

In the unopposed contests for District 1 positions, Jeff Connolly and Dan Mcdonald gained county commissioner seats for Dist. 2 and 3, respectively.
