IRONMAN SLAM
Male athletes are preparing to compete in the ironman volleyball tournament
Coming this April, Ironman will be taking place in our very own Les Rogers Court. Many male students are getting prepared and practicing for the game so that they can lead their team to victory and be the Ironman champions.
As the teams prepare, the coaches are being picked, the players are signing up, and strategy is being put into action.
“Any time students get excited about a project that they are planning, I can’t help but join in their enthusiasm. The Student Council decided that they wanted to bring back the tradition of Ironman this year. I look forward to this student-led activity, because it gives the students valuable practice in their leadership. Additionally, Bulldogs will have the opportunity to take part in, or attend, a memorable school event! Iron Man is organized by the sophomore class officers, based on the foundation that has been established over the course of the years it has existed at this school,” Kristin Hawkins, Student Leadership adviser said in an email.
This takes a lot of planning by both Hawkins and the student council staff. Some of the projects include making announcements to put in the bulletin and signs to hang in the halls. They also have to organize gym time for all four teams and organize a date for the event itself.
“The sophomore class has to clear it through the administration, get nets and balls from the volleyball coaches, set gym times and dates for the event. They also have to put together forms that the players and coaches fill out. Finally they organize the event and ensure that everything goes as planned,” senior Vice President Trinity Young said.
This event is not only a great way to involve many students at SHS but it is also a way for the community to see something different and for many students to try something that they have never done.
So if you want to see something exciting and new come out and watch the classes battle it out with serves, digs and spikes in this year’s Ironman on April 14.
