Russell Westbrook, point guard for the Oklahoma City Thunder, is making a strong case for the winner of the MVP for the 2014-2015 season.

He has proven that he can play at an MVP caliber by providing an eye-opening stat sheet nearly every game. Recently he has executed four triple-double games in a row. Only two other players in the history of the NBA have been able to do this, being Michael Jordan in 1989 and Magic Johnson in 1987.

With Kevin Durant being out due to injuries, someone needed to step up and play like a star for the team. Westbrook took the role and has been putting up outstanding numbers.

On Wednesday, March 4th he posted a career-high 49 points, followed by 10 assists and a monstrous 16 boards. This was his return from an absence from a bone breaking facial injury and wore a mask for this game.

In the month of February he averaged 31.2 points, 10.3 assists and 9.1 rebounds per game. (He is) The first player to average these numbers since Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson.

Russell Westbrook is definitely on the top of the list of candidates for MVP. He won the All-Star games MVP with 41 points in that one. Will this crossover to the regular season MVP? With little games in the regular season left, we’ll have to wait and see.
