LPOSD LEVY APPROVED
VOTERS PASS MEASURE BY NEARLY 70 PERCENT
Voters approved a levy for the Lake Pend Oreille School District on March 10.
With a voter turnout of a little more than 5,000 people, the final tally was 3,497 votes for and 1,515 against. The levy will run for the next two years, but no additional taxes will be added since it will replace the last levy.
The levy totals $15.8 million that covers teacher salaries, class supplies and extracurricular activities.
Although the levy passed, LPOSD still has to make approximately $1 million in cuts because student enrollment has dropped.
“It is a great day to be a Bulldog,” SHS principal Tom Albertson wrote in a message to students. “Yesterday the community supported you and your educational opportunities by passing the levy with almost 70 (percent) yes vote margin.”
