BreLynn Converse won $500 to keep and $500 to donate to a charity of her choice in Horizon Credit Union’s financial literacy program. Converse chose to donate to Panhandle Animal Shelter.

Horizon Credit Union partnered with Sandpoint High School Student Leadership and administration to put on the junior-class “Find Pig, Win Big” financial literacy program this winter, and winners were announced on Feb. 25 at an assembly.

BreLynn Converse completed the program first and won $500 to keep and $500 to donate to the charity of her choice: the Panhandle Animal Shelter. Mandy Evans, Executive Director of the Panhandle Animal Shelter attended the assembly as well and was presented the $500 check donated by Converse from Horizon Credit Union.

“We rehome about 1,200 dogs and cats per year, we also have a lot of outreach programs, so we help people who can’t afford to spay or neuter their pet […] and help people who can’t afford to pay to feed their pets. So five-hundred dollars actually does go a long way [at the Animal Shelter]; that’s probably feeding about fifty cats for a few days. I really do appreciate it and thank you for thinking of us,” Evans said.

Zachary Rutherford finished second and won $250 and Marissa Montgomery finished third and won $150. In addition, Cody Baldree, Laurali Barnes and Skyler Schenk won smaller prizes from the random drawing, all courtesy of Horizon Credit Union.
